Playa Del Carmen, Diving - Dec 2003
When people think of diving in Quintana Roo they generally think about drift diving the wall of Cozumel or cenote diving on the mainland.
The diving in the channel between Cozumel and Playa Del Carmen though really is very good. It may not be as clear or colorful as Cozumel, but the access is way easier, and the drifts can be just as exciting.
Tiny Moray Eel, I believe a Goldentail, but maybe somebody can correct me, poking his head out of the coral.
Soon I hope to have a garden like this.
For a long time now Liliana has wanted a picture of herself and a Turtle. That is pretty difficult to get together in a 3 knot current and only using hand signals to communicate. After many attempts this is the best I could do. Not too bad ... hmmm
One of my favorite dives anywhere is here. There are 2 parts to the dive , deep and shallow (110ft - 60ft) Both involve lots of turtles and a very very fast drift.
A foraging stingray cruises by.
Dive Shop on the beach at Playa Del Carmen. Great Location though they wouldn't rent me a tank to beach dive when there boat was full.
Anemones on the reef.
Picture of me mooching around the reef frightening the fish hiding under the ledge. The bright light is my HID which should really be in my hand but here is clipped off. Some dives are lazy dives!
Liliana pops out of a swimthrough back onto the top of the reef.
Black and Yellow.
Atlantic Spade Fish and Pork Fish
Old blind Moray, probably about 7ft long. Her head is about as big as mine.
Abstract photo from Liliana. I'm not to sure what this is exactly.
Another Turtle as we flash past.
