Miami Grand Prix - October 2002
The Indycar Grand Prix returned to downtown Miami. Fantastic venue. Ahh the sound of screaming engines, the smell of burning rubber and temperatures in the 90's made this a top event.
A lack of organization and terrible promotion meant that the city missed out on a chance to make Miami for Indycar what Monaco is for Formula One. Still myself and Chris had a great time.
Miami Bayfront... Reminiscent of Monaco, with race cars screaming past the moored yachts of the rich and not so famous.
Tropical Grand Prix...
Chris feeling the heat and it does get hot down there on the tarmac.
Challenge! Though lacking the noise and atmosphere of Formula One racing, it is still very entertaining
...though to give the race marshals credit, they cleared up the pileup in less than one minute!
I didn't see them stop! (...yes the stop sign).
Little bit of a tiff going on there, but that's not what this is about! As a Grand Prix venue this really could be excellent. Towering skyscrapers and saphire blue waters creating a spectacular backdrop. A little more promotion from Miami City is all that is required.
Very happy British tourist and race watcher.
A pileup... and unfortunately as is the way of Indy that means that the race has to stop...
This was a hot day in downtown Miami. It's unlikely that I'll be living here next year, but perhaps I'd come back for this.
