After Wilma - Puerto Aventuras
October 2005
When Hurricane Wilma finally decide to leave us, we were left without electricity and water except for the drinking water we had stocked up and a full swimming pool
We had a generator to run the fridge and freezer which was a huge help and coleman gasoline lamps to provide light at night. With all of this, things really were not so bad
These pictures hopefully give a feel of this time for my family and the family of my visiting sister.
We had lots of water in reserve tanks but no way to pump it without electricity. So much rain for the duration of the storm though meant that there was very little chlorine left in the pool and so we had plenty of water.
Liliana drying clothes with the Caribbean breezes. Could be a lot worse!
We ventured out the day after wilma left to check the dolphins and manatees in the Puerto Aventuras marina.
The dolphins seemed to be fine and were very playful, though I am sure the whole experience must have been very traumatic for them.
With no shower, bath time for Karin was by lamplight.
Without a washing machine, we needed to do things the old fashioned way. My niece and nephew were more than happy to help my sister.
A makeshift shower, with sun heated water worked incredibly well.
A baby manatee being bottle fed.
The dolphins in the marina love Karin, especially the baby ones like this one.
